ไม้สัก "Teak"

ประวัติความเป็นมา

            ประวัติศาสตร์ซึ่งย้อนหลังไปจนถึงยุคโบราณ ไม้สักเป็นที่รู้จักและถูกมนุษย์นำมาใช้งานมานานนับพันปี โดยชาวอียิปต์ อินเดีย และชาติต่างๆ จัดได้ว่าเป็นไม้ที่มีคุณภาพดีที่สุด ซึ่งทุกวันนี้มักมาจากประเทศไทย พม่า และอินเดีย ภาพพจน์ของไม้สักที่เป็นที่รู้จักกันทั่วโลกนั้น เนื่องจากคุณสมบัติสำคัญที่มาจากส่วนผสมที่เป็นที่ต้องการหลายอย่างของมัน เช่น ความทนทานและความต้านทานสูงต่อการผุพัง, ความสามารถพิเศษที่จะรักษารูปทรงได้ภายใต้สภาพความชื้นแตกต่างกัน, ความแข็งปานกลางซึ่งประกอบด้วยความแข็งแรง, ความง่ายต่อการทำงานด้วยเครื่องมือ, คุณสมบัติที่ตกแต่งง่าย, ความเบา บางทีคุณสมบัติที่ทรงคุณค่าของไม้สักมีที่มาจากความจริงที่ว่าไม้สักมีเรซิน (RESIN) หรือน้ำมันในเนื้อไม้ซึ่งทำให้ไม้สักมีภูมิคุ้มกันต่อการเข้าทำลายของปลวกและเชื้อรา ไม้สักจะมีความทนทานในรูปของไม้แปรรูป ไม้สักได้รับฉายานามว่าเป็น ราชินีแห่งไม้ซุง(Queen of timber) หรือ เป็นมงกุฎเพชรประดับเหนือยอดป่าไม้เขตร้อนของเอเชียตะวันออกเฉียงใต้

สัก (Teak) ไม้ต้นขนาดใหญ่ผลัดใบในฤดูร้อน ลำต้นเปลาตรงเปลือกเรียบหรือแตกเป็นร่องเล็ก ๆ สีเทา โคนเป็นพูพอนต่ำ ๆ เรือนยอดเป็นพุ่มทรงกลมค่อนข้างทึบ เปลือกสีเทา เรียบ หรือแตกเป็นร่องตื้นตามความยาวลำต้น ขึ้นเป็นหมู่ในป่าเบญจพรรณทางภาคเหนือ บางส่วนในภาคกลางและภาคตะวันตก มีอยู่บ้างทางภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือ สักมักจะได้รับความเข้าใจผิดเสมอว่าเป็นไม้เนื้อแข็งเนื่องจากว่ามันมีลักษณะพิเศษที่เป็นไม้เนื้ออ่อนที่มีความทนทานกว่าไม้เนื้อแข็งหลายๆ

 

 ประโยชน์ของไม้สัก

            ไม้สักเป็นไม้เนื้อแข็ง มีความแข็งแรงเหมาะแก่การทำมาทำสิ่งปลูกสร้างต่างๆ เนื้อไม้มีสารเคมีเคลือบเนื้อไม้อยู่ทำให้ปลวกและมอดไม่สามารถทำอันตรายได้

• การคัดเลือกไม้สัก ตามประเภทไม้แปรรูป

• ไม้ที่ใช้ไม่ต้องการความประณีตมากนัก เช่นการก่อสร้างบ้านเรือนที่อยู่อาศัย ไม้ประเภทนี้ต้องมีความแข็งแรง  ควรเลือกไม้แก่นหรือไม้ที่มีอายุเหมาะแก่การตัด ไม่มีรอยชำรุดเสียหาย

การเลือกไม้มาใช้ในงานประณีต ไม้ที่ใช้เป็นไม้ที่ไม่ต้องรับน้ำหนักหรือแรงต้านมากมาก ไม้จะถูกนำมาประกอบเป็นรูปร่างต่างๆ เช่นบานประตู เครื่องเรือน โต๊ะ ตู้ หรือเก้าอี้ต่างๆ ที่จะทำอย่างประณีตและต้องการความสวยงามเป็นงานที่ทำได้ยากและต้องใช้ฝีมือ

 

ขั้นตอนการปลูกไม้สัก

นำเมล็ดต้นสักมาเพาะเมล็ดในถุงขนาดเล็ก โดยการหยอดให้กระจายทั่วถุง ใช้เวลาเพาะประมาณ3-4 เดือน จะได้ต้นกล้าจากนั้นนำมาปลูกลงพื้นที่ที่ต้องการปลูก โดยปลูกห่างการต้นละ 2 เมตร ไม้สักที่นำมาใช้งานมีอายุ15ปีขึ้นไป ไม้สักมีอายุเต็มที่ 30 ปี ไม้สักมีหลากหลายสายพันธุ์ เช่น ไม้สักทอง จะมีเนื้อไม้สีเหลือง เป็นต้น ไม้ที่ตัดแล้วเราสามารถหาอายุเนื้อไม้จากวงปี ราคาของไม้สักจะเพิ่มค้นตามอายุของไม้

วิธีการแปรรูปไม้สัก

กรรมวิธีและขั้นตอนการทำเฟอร์นิเจอร์ด้วยไม้สัก

1.นำไม้สักอายุประมาน15-30ปี(คัดเลือกอายุไม้ตามความต้องการของลูกค้าก็ได้)นำมาตัดเป็นท่อนๆและแยกเอาเปลือกไม้ออก

2.นำท่อนไม้ที่ได้มาแยกตามขนาดและอายุ จากนั้นนำไปเลื้อยโดยใช้เครื่องเลื้อยให้ได้ตามขนาดที่ต้องการที่จะนำไปทำเฟอร์นิเจอร์รูปแบบต่างๆ โดยไม้ต้นโตจะเลื้อยเป็นชิ้นใหญ่ ไม้ต้นเล็กขะเลื้อยเป็นชิ้นเล็กๆ

3.นำไม้ที่เลื้อยแล้วมาประกอบเป็นเฟอร์นิเจอร์ที่ต้องการเช่น โต๊ะ เก้าอี้ ตู้ โดยเราสามรถนำไม้ไปแกะสลักตามลายที่ต้องการของลูกค้าแล้วนำมาประกอบทีหลังได้

4.เมื่อประกอบเสร็จจึงนำมาทาสี และอุดรูไม้ จากนั้นขัดโดยใช้กระดาษทรายระเอียดขัดให้เรียบเนียน

5.นำทินเนอร์มาผสมกับสีฝุ่นคนให้เข้ากันจากนั้นเทใส่กระบอกฉีดแล้วฉีดลงบนชิ้นงานให้ทั่วเพื่อเพิ่มความเงางามให้กับชื้นงาน

ปี 2547 รัฐบาลเริ่มส่งเสริมให้ปลูกไม้สักเพื่อจำหน่ายให้กับโรงงาน เป็นการลดการลักลอบตัดไม้สักในเขตหวงห้าม จึงมีการปลูกไม้สักเพิ่มมากขึ้นโดยเฉพาะที่อำเภอสูงเม่น

 

History
